Thomas Bourany

Thomas Bourany is a PhD student in Economics at the University of Chicago. His research agenda lies at the intersection of Macroeconomics, Climate Economics, and International Trade, and he studies potential economic solutions to climate change. He uses theory and mathematical modelling to understand the heterogeneous costs of global warming, determine the optimal climate policy, i.e. the appropriate level of carbon taxation, and implement it in the real world through “climate clubs” and optimally designed climate agreements. He is also interested in understanding the transmission of macroeconomic shocks and the effects of uncertainty in economies with inequalities across households or firms.

Prior to joining the Economics Department, Thomas obtained an MA in Economics joint from Sciences Po, École Polytechnique and Ensae as well as an MSc in Mathematics from UPMC-Sorbonne in Paris.
