Steven Lalley

Professor of Statistics and Mathematics

Steven Lalley has been a Professor in the Statistics Department at the University of Chicago since 1998, and served as Chair from 2001 until 2005. Before joining
the faculty at Chicago he held positions at Purdue and Columbia Universities. He recevied his Ph. D. in Statistics at Stanford University in 1981.

Lalley’s  research interests are in probability theory and stochastic processes, and, in particular, stochastic interacting systems and interrelationships between probability theory and geometry. He is a Fellow of both the American Mathematical Society and the Institute of Mathematical Statistics, a former
editor-in-chief  of the Annals of Probability, and has also served on the editorial boards of the Annals of Statistics and Mathematische Zeitschrift.
