Professor of Mathematics, The University of Chicago
Shmuel Weinberger received his Ph.D. from the Courant Institute in 1982, and aside from years at Princeton, Courant, University of Pennsylvania, MSRI and Hebrew University, has been at the University of Chicago ever since. Most of his research involves topology and geometry and, in recent years, he has written papers on the applications of these to economics and to the analysis of large data sets. He is the Chairman of the Department of Mathematics at the University of Chicago. He is also on the Board of Directors for the FoCM (Foundations of Computational Mathematics), and the Board of Govenors for the Stevanovich Center.
